Our event of the day is Day 3 at the Nature Valley International at Devonshire Park in East Sussex. The build-up to the Grand Slam at Wimbledon continues with the ATP 250 event and WTA Premier Tournament held in Eastbourne. Last year, the final saw Novak Djokovic ease to a straight sets victory against Gael Monfils in the Men's singles. The Women's final in 2017 saw current world number 7 Karolína Plíšková beat Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki in two sets. This year both women are back at the tournament and Wozniacki, who is number two in the world, will be hoping to go one better this year as Pliskova attempts to retain her title. In the Men's side Andy Murray will be hoping for a win as he seeks to build momentum in the run up to Wimbledon.
On the third day of the tournament there are a number of intriguing matchups at Eastbourne. Two time Wimbledon winner and current world number 8, Petra Kvitová should feel at home on the grass court when she takes on 31 year old Ukrainian, Kateryna Bondarenko in the Women's singles. 73 places separate the women in the world rankings but Bondarenko will be no pushover, having won the 2008 Australian Open Doubles title. In the men’s singles, Frenchman Gilles Simon takes on Argentinian Leonardo Mayer and the British Number 2 Cameron Norrie plays the German, Daniel Brands. A good mixture of youthful and experienced players will make for an exciting Day 3 at Devonshire Park.
Honourable mentions around the globe go to Day 13 at the FIFA World Cup with the final matches being played in Group C and Group D. Denmark will take on France in the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, with Denmark needing at least a draw to guarantee progression to the round of 16. The other match in Group C sees Australia face off against Peru at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Adler. Group D sees Iceland against Croatia in the Rostov Arena in Rostov-on-Don and Nigeria versus Argentina at the Krestovsky Stadium in St Petersburg. Croatia have already qualified but all three other teams could still qualify if results go their way. Additionally, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League and Europa League begin with Sant Julià playing Gžira United in Andorra la Vella in Europa League qualifying. While in Champions League qualifying, FC Santa Coloma host Drita, and La Fiorita play Lincoln Red Imps FC. In Cricket, County Championship Division One games include Yorkshire facing Surrey at North Marine Road Ground and Lancashire against Hampshire at Old Trafford. Internationally, it is Day 4 of the Third Test as Sri Lanka take on the West Indies in Bridgetown. In MLB, the Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium.
Whatever you’re watching, enjoy!
